CFML (for mobile phones?)

I wanted to see if anyone out there is interested in helping me build a new CFML framework.

Why build a new framework when you have 50 of them out there now?
I want to make a Mobile Phone framework powered by CFML, Stylesheets and more.

I would like to build a CFML tag framework that would enable developers to build mobile compliant website, easily and quickly. If you have experience building mobile compliant web sites, please let me know (even if you can't help.. I might be interested in asking some questions or getting some feedback from you to get this framework going!)

I have registered a domain name "cfml.mobi" which I am finihsing up a site for; however if after we got this going we want to change the name as a team; I am willing to do that too, just trying to be pro-active! :)

I wanted to see if there was anyone out there interested in being part of the development of the framework. Let me know your thoughts and if you're interested in being part of the team... Drop me an email in this post!

Thanks,
Pablo Varando

Freelance Web Developmer's Gravatar Here is a site I did in CF, that has a mobile version (link is on the right).

It's made for mobile phones as well, not just mobile browsers. So it's way low tech, but the broadest range of 'browsers'.

Andy Jarrett's Gravatar Shouldn't making a site mobile friendly come down to the stylesheet/layout? If you're using something like MG you could even swap out the layout view? I don't think I am getting why you would need a mobile specific framework, why wouldn't MG, Coldbox etc work?

Pablo Varando's Gravatar FWD - What challenges did you run into? Issues you had to overcome?

Andy, Though stylesheets do go a long way; developing and structing a site to be compliant and correctly developed is another thing altogether. Providing a centralized (control) method to develop the entire site (along with things that detect what type of of, browser type and version) are certainly things that stylesheets or even existing frameworks cannot do. Is there existing ways to do things, sure... but then again that is what the Allaire brother's could have said when they started out creating ColdFusion. Creating a tool or method to simplify the process and allowing people an easy way to do that; usually makes the technoloy better and more approachable. I appreciate the comments posted by both posters so far; but I still feel that there is nothing out there for us to really use to achieve this...Will the ui need to be different from a blackberry to an iPhone? Yes, definitely... so building a system that is smart enough to detect that; then switch by itself is definitely well worth the effort... especially is many people out there can benefit from using it.

Just my thoughts :)

Craig H's Gravatar Have you gotten any takers yet for this? I would be interested in learning more of what exactly you have in mind for this.

Gavin's Gravatar Hi there, I would be very interested in developing a cfml for mobile phones. Our company is a cellular service provider and i have access to the SMSC and the USSD platforms ready for development.

My one duty is to develop new applications for our network so this has come just in time, where do we start?
